• Looking for a first-time job in law enforcement? The Fort Madison Police Department is willing to hire the right person and provide training. Non-certified applicants will attend the four-month Iowa Law Enforcement Academy while receiving full-time pay!

 

• Already a certified officer and looking to relocate to a new community? Pre-certified officers are eligible for lateral entry wage and benefits, and may qualify for a hiring bonus of up to $15,000.​

We offer a salary and benefits package including:

​

• $28.17 to $37.40 per hour, depending on years of service. Longevity, night-shift and education pay are added on top.

• 10 paid holidays: 2.5x pay when you work a holiday and 8 hours' pay when you're off, worth about $3,700 to $4,900 a year.

• MFPRSI pension.

• Paid vacation, sick leave and personal days.

• The City pays 100% of single health coverage, plus a $20,000 life insurance policy at no cost to you.

• 12-hour shifts, every other weekend off. Uniforms and equipment are provided, the City reimburses 75% of college tuition, and you can live in Iowa, Illinois or Missouri within 45 air miles of the city limits.

Non-ILEA-certified candidates will be required to complete a written test (POST) and a physical fitness test in Fort Madison to attain eligibility. All applicants must be able to carry a firearm, pass a background check, and possess a valid driver's license.
